Poverty Reduction in Nigeria via National Poverty Eradication Prgramme (NAPEP): Two Decades of Policy Failure?

In spite of the conscious efforts by successive Nigerian governments to reduce poverty in the country, poverty incidence has been on the rise. This study, therefore, attempted to examine NAPEP as a policy to eradicate extreme poverty in the country. Personal interviews and documents were employed in data collection. The data were analysed using tables, simple percentages and spearman rank correlation. The study revealed, among others, that NAPEP as a policy aimed at eradicating extreme poverty has recorded a mixed bag of limited success and continuing challenges. It was, therefore, recommended that the policy should be reexamined and possibly re-designed for effective performance
